All centers of Instituto Cervantes around the world will open their doors to celebrate the Spanish language day on June 20, 2009. This celebration is part of ongoing effort of Instituto Cervantes and Spanish Government to raise awareness about the importance of Spanish language and establish a meeting point for all Spanish speakers. The principal objective is to reaffirm Spanish as an international language of communication, and popularize it as diverse, warm, rich and receptive language. It has been confirmed by the authorities that Spanish Language day will be celebrated every year on the Saturday after the Summer Solstice.
Instituto Cervantes, New Delhi center with its recently inaugurated establishment at 48, Hanuman Road is planning to make full use of this opportunity to reach larger audience by organizing a series of activities on June 20, 2009.
The first Spanish Government run institute in India, Instituto Cervantes with its Director, Mr. Oscar Pujol - the well known Sanskrit, Spanish and Catalan Scholar is poised to receive more than 2000 visitors at its center in New Delhi on June 20, 2009, the day which shall serve as meeting point for Spanish scholars, students, diplomats and visitors with interest in Hispanic world.
The full day event will start with “a shower of Spanish words” followed by a showcase of facilities being offered by the Spanish official language and cultural center. The doors will be opened for the visitors to enjoy Spanish music, Spanish television, Karaoke, Spanish Cinema, Spanish book sales, tourist information followed by food stalls and showcase of information by Latin American embassies in India.
To provide career counseling to students with interest in Spanish language, Instituto Cervantes has invited Mr. Ravi Kumar, the Executive Director, HISPANICINDIA to deliver a presentation on “Careers in Languages: Job Opportunities for Spanish Speakers”. Mr. Kumar is well known Hispanist and Entrepreneur and it is expected that his presence would provide direction to many students who are interested in making a career out of Spanish language.
Ms. Ana Reguillo, the Education Head of Instituto Cervantes has also confirmed that the center will be announcing prize draw for 3 scholarships for students for their Spanish course beginning in July 2009. In addition, there will be discounts for first 200 students for the various courses in Spanish language being offered by the New Delhi center.
